The K65 LUX RGB is a simple tenkeyless keyboard, as are most mechanical gaming keyboards of this type. It has a plastic base topped with a brushed aluminum keyboard deck, with keys floating up above it. This seems to be the basic design standard for nearly all tenkeyless gaming keyboards, and it works.
The Rapid Fire is the big brother of the compact K65 family. Presenting itself in a glossy black box with yellow accents you see a sleek angled glance of the keyboard on the box’s front. The words “RAPID FIRE” shining in silver at the bottom tell you what this mod of the K65 is about.
The K65 has fantastic feedback. Its keys respond quickly to light taps, and they do not need to be depressed completely to receive input. This makes doubletapping and button-mashing a breeze.
Unfortunately, this also means that it's easier to hit keys on accident. I had to make a few changes to my hand position to keep from bumping extra keys. Though it did take a few days to get used to, and caused a small number of in-game issues, it didn't detract from my enjoyment once I got adjusted. But if you're heavier-handed or you have larger fingers, it's worth keeping in mind that the sensitivity can make it more difficult to hit key combos accurately.
Along with the K65 RGB's mechanical switches, of course. By now, most savvy keyboard shoppers are aware of the differences between mechanical and rubber-dome keyboards, and might even have committed to memory the distinct tactility, noise, and pressure of the four or five most common flavors of Cherry MX mechanical key switches. But in brief: Rubber-dome keyboards are quiet to type on and usually inexpensive. Their low manufacturing cost and a huge, ready market means a lot of competition among products in terms of adding features. Mechanical keyboards are significantly more expensive, and generally noisier (even with the somewhat quieter Cherry MX Red and MX Black switches). On the other hand, rubber-dome switches can wear out over time and heavy use, and more important, they do so unevenly.
