We have recently looked at a number of coolers from Corsair’s Hydro series and have been very impressed with what they have to offer. The H55, is based on an Asetek design which is shared by the Antec Kuhler models. The H60, H80i and H100i all share a different basic design as they are made by CoolIT Systems.
The Corsair Hydro series has been more or less entirely revamped in the past few months with new variants of all coolers that include either better tubing, better pumps, better fans or all of those improvements. The H55 is right at the lower end of the new Hydro series just above the H50 and H40 which are both very similar products. Put in simpler terms the H55 is an improved version of the Corsair H50 so will bring the benefits of all-in-one liquid coolers but without the size or price premium of the H80i and H100i. It also represents a maturation of the all-in-one liquid cooler concept that should give better performance with a smaller size compared to previous generation liquid coolers.
Corsair’s H55 features a 27mm-thick 120mm radiator, new and improved flexible rubber tubing, a single 120mm fan and an improved mounting system. Like most other Corsair Hydro Series products the Corsair H55 is manufactured by Asetek.
Underneath you can see we have something of a screw-gasm going on. The copper cold plate comes with some pre-applied thermal grease. We won’t be using this in our testing for fair comparison purposes but you can expect the included thermal paste is probably 3 or 4 degrees “worse” than the high performance Gelid GC-Extreme thermal paste we use.
The pump head can be installed on to Intel and AMD processors without the need for tools using the included mounting kit. It is designed with a microfin copper cold plate for providing fast and efficient heat transfers from the processor to the circulating liquid. Furthermore, this pump features a low profile design that simplifies installation and helps improve the airflow inside your computer case.
- 1 x 120mm Fan
- 1 x Radiator
- Factory-Filled Coolant
- Maintenance Free Design
- Copper Cold Plate
- Compatible with AMD & Intel Sockets
The modular design makes installation simpler, and it’s compatible with Intel and AMD processors. The low speed and wide diameter reduces noise levels over the smaller, faster fans used on stock CPU coolers. The three-pin connector is compatible with fan controllers. Minimal coolant evaporation helps ensure long life, and the resilient rubber offers both high flexibility and excellent leak protection. The pump unit provides high-speed circulation without taking a lot of space. This makes installation easier, and helps improve your case’s airflow. Copper has excellent thermal transfer characteristics, and the fin design is optimized for efficient heat exchange. The low-profile design reduces the airflow requirement, which helps make H55 quieter. The small size also allows for easier installation and improved compatibility, and the black finish looks great.
