When it comes to monitors, you’ll find some very great options, but not all of them are affordable. If you’re on the lookout for a UHD 4K monitor that won’t cost you as much as all the other pricey options available, the AOC U2879VF is a great pick. It’s rare to find a 4K UHD display for such an affordable price.
The U2879VF features a 28″ display size which combines with the 4K Ultra-HD resolution to deliver highly detailed and super sharp images. The 2160p monitor by AOC features the 10-bit Deep Color panel that displays more than a billion hues simultaneously. The result is natural shading and superb realism with extra-sharp images and color rendering.
It is also the most affordable we know of that comes with FreeSync, AMD's adaptive refresh technology, which reduces tearing, stuttering or ghosting, making it ideal for gaming with AMD-equipped systems.
Out of the box, the monitor sports a glossy piano bezel with a matte display and a metal plate that is screwed to the stand. The power supply is external which may irk some of you looking for an integrated design.
When it comes to delivering a visually impressive performance, AOC U2879VF delivers more than most products. Featuring a 28-inch LED-lit display with an aspect ratio of 16:9 and 4K 2160p resolution, the monitor is ideal for watching videos, working on spreadsheets or documents, and even for gaming purposes thanks to its amazingly fast response time.
The monitor delivers fast-moving action in games, videos, and movies without blurring or lagging at all. The monitor is fully compatible with the AMD FreeSync technology, which eliminates stuttering and tearing by matching the signals to the screen timing accurately. The monitor is designed to display darker images with great clarity and depth as its ultra-high dynamic contrast adjusts the brightness intelligently.
The U2879VF boosts a 1ms response time with AOC's proprietary flicker-free technology smoothing over the viewing experience. That's further improved by the Innolux-sourced 10-bit 'Deep Color' RGB display panel, one which allows for a much wider colour range.
The monitor's rear-facing connectors include MHL-compatible HDMI (v2.0), DisplayPort, VGA and DL-DVI. You will be able to combine two or more of them in PiP (Picture-in-Picture) or PbP (Picture-by-Picture) modes.

The AOC U2879VF won't wow you with features and aesthetics, but it gives you a sharp 4K picture without depleting your bank account. Additionally, its fast pixel response and FreeSync anti-tearing technology provide good gaming performance should you decide to partake in a little after-hours entertainment. That said, its color and grayscale performance could be better, and it doesn't give you the wide viewing angles that you get with an IPS monitor. If color accuracy and grayscale performance are paramount, consider our Editors' Choice for midrange UHD monitors, the 27-inch ViewSonic VP2780-4K.
