The Z170 Deluxe features an LGA1151 socket that can be paired with Core i5/i7 CPUs, as well as Pentium or Celeron processors. If you’re eying this motherboard, you’re likely looking to go with the Core i5 6600K (as we have), or the beefier Core i7 6700K Skylake offerings.
This Z170-Deluxe motherboard comes outfitted with three PCIe 3.0 x16 slots so you can install dedicated graphics cards linked via SLI or CrossFireX. Using integrated Intel HD graphics, it delivers visuals through the DisplayPort and HDMI ports. In addition, it has four PCI x1 slots. You can immerse yourself in sounds using your speakers or headset and the Realtek ALC1150 featuring Crystal Sound 3 to complete the multimedia experience. ASUS has equipped this motherboard with five USB 3.1 type-A ports that transfer data to external drives at a rate up to 10 Gb/s. It also provides a single USB 3.0 port and a USB 2.0 port, which can be used for flashing the BIOS. For internal drive support, it offers six SATA III 6 Gb/s ports that can connect to hard drives and optical drives. As the Deluxe series is targeting a broad userbase, ASUS offers a laundry list of features designed to ensure that the board is future-proof. There are overclocking features for those looking to push the Skylake processors, and while the board may not offer almost as much as one designed for overclocking, you still end up with a lot of headroom. And that is a recurring theme with the Z170 Deluxe. The board comes with 3×3 Wi-Fi ac with a bandwidth of 1300Mbps. While everyone may not be that excited over 3×3 Wi-Fi than the Pro Clock overclocking feature, those that care about fast wireless connectivity will love what’s on offer with the Z170 Deluxe.
The Asus Motherboard has standard 4 x 4pins (PWM) case fan connections. But also supports an "ASUS Fan Extension Card". This gives you 3 additional connections that are controlled and controlled by the Qfan Control by the motherboard. This is unfortunately not included in the motherboard and is quite difficult to obtain.
The Z170 Deluxe is one of the best-designed motherboards I’ve seen, with more than enough room for large video cards and easy access to on-board connectors. The board does look crowded on account of the sheer number of features on offer, with ASUS managing to cram enough utilities to crowd an E-ATX board into a standard ATX offering.
The socket area is surrounded by the heatsinks, which are angled away. The CPU’s power delivery is managed by two DIGI+/EPU integrated circuits. There are four DDR4 slots to the right of the socket, which can accommodate up to 64GB of memory. When it comes to storage, you can accommodate eight SATA 6.0Gb/s drives, along with an M.2 drive.
