Mutant Football League is an upcoming Football video game. It is a spiritual successor to EA Sports Mutual League Football. The game is being developed by Digital Dreams Entertainment, led by Michael Mendheim, designer of the original Mutant League Football game. Mendheim stated that due to the original funding failure the game will not have as much content as originally planned, and that the main purpose of the second Kickstarter was to fund development of online multiplayer.
Mutant Football League is a violent, over-the-top, interpretation of the game of football. It draws inspiration from the original Mutant League Football, as well as other games in the genre such as NFL Blitz
The game features 7-on-7 action, with teams made up of various monsters, including skeletons, robots, orcs, and aliens. The fields are littered with obstacles, including saws and landmines. Players can call normal plays, as well as "dirty tricks", which include bribing the referee, and using a chainsaw to cut through the opposition.
Give MFL a test drive so you can see exactly where the game is in development. There are some bugs and game rules which are not working correctly (but you will still have fun playing). The User can play a single game against the computer or local multiplayer game against friends (2 to 4 players). Since the game is pre alpha and not fully tested you may experience some issues based on different PC Configurations. We apologize in advance for any frustration.
You will need an Official Xbox One or PS4 DualShock Controller to play the game on PC. Keyboard and Mouse are not supported yet.
- Windows 7 or higher
- Intel Core i3 or better
- nVidia gForce 460 or better (with 1.5+ GB of memory)
- 4 GB RAM or more
Mutant Football League is an action football game where you pick from 14 Unique Teams or 3 All-Star Teams for online or offline game play, in solo, co-op, or head-to-head modes. Players can win by scoring more points than the opposition or by literally decimating the opposing team so they have to forfeit. The choice is yours! This is the next generation, spiritual successor to the classic retro game, Mutant League Football with beautiful 3D graphics and impressive gore effects.
Dirty Tricks, as Mutant League fans know, are the extracurricular boosts, like bribing or even murdering the officiating. They can swing a game to the player’s favor at a critical juncture. Mutant Football League can be unabashedly unfair; a losing team can still win by killing so many of the opposing players that they have to forfeit. It’s is at its best when the score is almost irrelevant: the quarterback dies, a linebacker picks up the fumble and steps on a landmine, and someone else takes the ball and dodges a saw blade slicing across a field that now looks like a Buffalo Bills tailgate party.
"Mutant Football League" is often a game of attrition, as players will go down due to injury or die in gruesome fashion on the field. If a team loses too many players at a certain position they are at a major disadvantage or may need to forfeit. It's also about capitalizing on big plays at the right moments. Pulling out a Dirty Trick that results in a score, prevention of a score, or counterbalance of an opponents advantage is critical while wasting any of those opportunities can be devastating.
Thankfully, both the Dirty Tricks and permanent deaths can be turned off, and it may be a smart decision to make when initially learning the game. Frustration set in during the first few hours when the CPU would wreck me on almost every down and seemingly any hard-earned touchdown that was earned was taken off the board due to a bogus penalty.
"Mutant Football League" features regular Play Now games, practice mode, standard Season mode, Playoffs mode, and online head-to-head. There's also commentary from the legendary Tim Kitzrow (of "NBA Jam" fame) which is occasionally amusing but I found mostly to be more crass than clever.
